The Figurative Blood and Flesh of Lamb

Main Reference : Rv 7:14

Q) What is the figurative meaning of the flesh and blood of the lamb?

A) Jesus’ word of life.

[1] Figurative Meaning of the Lamb : Jesus

Ex 12:1-14

passover at Moses’ time : flesh and blood of the lamb ⇒ the plague passed over the house (salvation)

▪️ Plague passes over

▮ Passover : if refers to the historical event in which a plague passed over the houses that had flesh and blood of flawless lambs; it’s an event in the Old Testament in which the Israelites of that time were saved

To commemorate this day, people made it a festival to the LORD and kept it every year as a lasting ordinance.

◾ Festival : a shadow of the things to come (Col 2: 16-17)

◾ Passover in the Old Testament : foreshadowed what Jesus would achieve.

Jn 1:29

lamb = Jesus

1 Cor 5:7

passover lamb = Jesus

▪️ Just as people were saved by the flesh and blood of flawless lambs at Moses’ time in the Old Testament, we are saved by the sacrifice of Jesus, the sinless Passover Lamb.

∴ The figurative meaning of the lamb is Jesus

[2] Figurative Meaning of the Flesh and Blood of the Lamb : Jesus’ Word of Life

1) Flesh and blood of the lamb to be eaten at the First Coming (spiritual food)

Jn 6:27

food that spoils = physical food

food that endures to eternal life = spiritual food (God’s word)

Jn 6:49-51

living bread that came down from heaven (= “my flesh”) = Jesus.

Jn 6:53-55

Jesus’ flesh and blood : what the one who eats them will have ⇒ life (O), eternal life (O).

Jn 6:63, 68

Jesus’ word of eternal life = spirit, life (the spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing)

▪️ one can have life through the word that comes out of Jesus’ mouth

▮ One who gives food that endures to eternal life : Son of Man (Jn 6:27)

= living bread that came down from heaven (Jn 6:49-51)

= Jesus’ flesh and blood (Jn 6:53-55)

= Jesus’ word of eternal life (Jn 6:63, 68)

Those who ate the flesh and blood of the lamb at the First Coming : Jesus’ disciples

Flesh and blood of the lamb to eat to have eternal life at the First Coming : Jesus’ word (word that testifies to the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament).

2) Promise about the flesh and blood of the lamb to be eaten again at the Second Coming

Lk 22:14-20

Jesus’ blood : new covenant

▮ Contents of the new covenant

◾ Lk 22:16

I will not eat the Passover food again until it finds fulfillment in God’s kingdom

→ there is the Passover food (the flesh and blood of the lamb) to be eaten when God’s kingdom is established

◾ Lk 22:18

I will not drink wine from the vine again until God’s kingdom comes

→ there is wine to drink when God’s kingdom comes

◾ Lk 22:19

commemorate with bread and wine → communion

Mt 26:26-29

wine : Jesus promised that he will drink it new in his Father’s kingdom → there is a new wine to drink in the Father’s kingdom.

When Jesus made the new covenant,

he said he would drink the new wine in the Father’s kingdom

therefore, we know that

there is the flesh and blood of the lamb

to be eaten today at the Second Coming.

[3] Flesh and Blood of the Lamb at the Second Coming

▪️ through whom does Jesus give the food to be eaten today?

Rv 2:17

Mt 24:45-47

Rv 10:

∴ One who overcomes = faithful and wise servant = new John

▪️ New John : he’s not John the Apostle who wrote Revelation 2,000 years ago; he is pastor who is to appear today in John’s position, a promised pastor who testifies to the fulfillment of the New Testament when the prophecy is fulfilled.

Flesh and blood of the lamb at the First Coming : word that testifies to the fulfillment of the prophecies in the Old Testament
