Masan Bay is contaminated with Cigarette butts,

Shincheonji Volunteer Masan Branch starts campaign

Shincheonji Volunteer Masan Branch started a campaign called ‘Protect the green nature, beginning of sea’. This campaign was held near Masa Station as part of the 2050 Carbon Neutral Practical Movement’.

The campaign called ‘Beginning of the Sea’ is a campaign that raises awareness for citizens not to throw away cigarette butts emphasizing the problem that has an adverse effect on the marine ecosystem because of numerous cigarette butts thrown away through rainwater drains being leaked into the ocean in a sewer pipe.

Masan Branch started a campaign to ‘Beginning of sea’ as part of the volunteer work to clean up the environment called ‘Protect the green nature’ with about 70 people including local people near Masan Station. Through regular volunteer work on this day, it also made people think about the meaning of this campaign through not only environmental cleanup activities, but also parades with citizens.

People who participated in the event said “I thought that Masan Bay was good at cleaning the ocean. But, I was surprised to find out that the ocean pollution was serious due to cigarette butts. Through this campaign, I will join in reducing marine waste in the future.”, “Masan Station was messy because of cigarette buts everywhere even if we cleaned up. I’m grateful to see the street clean through today’s event.”, “I hope Masan Bay and the marine ecosystem will be revived through the Shincheonji Volunteer campaign in the future.”

An official of the Masan branch of Korean Disabled Veterans Association By Agent Orange In Vietnam War said "Our group has a high age class, so we were only looking to receive volunteer work, so it was meaningful to be invited to participate in volunteer work like this. I knew that smoking is harmful to our health. But, I found out that Tobacco is the main cause of marine waste. I want to continue to work together in the future.”.

An official of the Masan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer said, "We have been communicating with local government offices and carrying out activities tailored to the characteristics of the region. We will continue to carry out activities wherever we can volunteer together and whenever help is needed."
