Shincheonji: A New Phenomenon of 'Many, Bright, and Young'

Recently, at a café in Seoul, citizens were engaged in lively discussions about the Bible Seminar hosted by Shincheonji Church of Jesus (Shincheonji). The large-scale events, held every week across the country, are already making headlines, especially with crowds nearing 10,000 people waving balloons and chanting slogans to welcome the event. The orderly and disciplined masses of Shincheonji members have been a source of surprise and fascination among citizens.

At the Bible Seminar held at the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Yeongdeungpo Church, in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, people were mesmerized by the large crowd gathered in the streets. Some even took out their phones to snap pictures. One citizen, who had lived in the area for 30 years, said, "I've never seen so many people gather here before," expressing curiosity about Shincheonji. What stood out the most was the bright expressions and orderly demeanor of Shincheonji members, which left a lasting impact on local churchgoers. A woman in her 60s, after noticing many young people at the event, said, "I didn't know where all the young people had gone, but they were in Shincheonji.", admitting that her perspective on Shincheonji changed after clearing up her misconceptions.

While traditional churches are declining, Shincheonji Church of Jesus is growing at a remarkable rate. Recently, Shincheonji Church held three graduation ceremonies with over 100,000 graduates, and this year, the 110,000 graduation ceremony was held. This rapid growth has sparked increased curiosity, with more people now asking, "What does Shincheonji teach?" In the past, many viewed Shincheonji with skepticism and fear, but now, the focus is shifting toward understanding the teachings.

Many attribute the success of Shincheonji to its foundation in biblical teachings. Some pastors who once misunderstood Shincheonji now admit that their misconceptions were based on ignorance. More pastors are also forming partnerships with Shincheonji, and many have confessed that their perspective on faith changed after experiencing Shincheonji firsthand.

Today, people no longer view Shincheonji simply as a cult or heretical group.
