[Shincheonji Volunteer Icheon Branch] Honoring Patriots Month with a Meaningful Rose of Sharon Planting alongside Korean War Veterans

Honoring Patriots Month with a Meaningful Rose of Sharon Planting
alongside Korean War Veterans

In June, designated as the Month of Patriots and Veterans, a warm and heartfelt event took place in Icheon to honor the noble sacrifices of those who served their country.

The event was organized by the Shincheonji Volunteer Icheon Branch (headed by Branch Director Hong Ki-chul) in collaboration with the Icheon Council for the Promotion of National Reunification. It featured a meaningful Rose of Sharon planting campaign at the Rose of Sharon Garden in Seolbong Park. Various groups participated, including the Korean War Veterans Association of Icheon, members of the Liberation Association, the 3rd Airborne Brigade of Icheon’s Special Forces, and local citizens, adding greater significance to the occasion.

▎ Remembering the Spirit of Patriotism Through Rose of Sharon Planting

On this day, participants carefully and sincerely planted Rose of Sharon trees, embodying the heartfelt reverence for those who once fought to protect the nation. The scene evoked a sense of connection to the spirit of the war veterans. The fact that a new space blooming with Korea’s national flower is being created within Seolbong Park—a well-known Icheon landmark and the successful host site of the 2001 World Ceramic Expo—made the event even more touching.

In particular, Ms. Ahn Hyo-soon (47) shared, “It reminded me of my grandfather, and I was deeply moved,” adding, “It was a meaningful time to reflect on the importance of loving our country during Patriots and Veterans Month.” Another citizen remarked, “Because of those who sacrificed for the country, we can enjoy the peaceful and prosperous life we have today,” expressing deep respect and gratitude toward the veterans.

▎ A Small but Significant Step Toward Peace

A representative from the Icheon Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer stated, “It is thanks to the sacrifice of those who defended the country that we can now live in peace. We will continue to carry on the spirit of patriotism through various future campaigns.”

In each careful planting of a Rose of Sharon tree bloomed not only a flower, but also gratitude, respect, and the value of peace. This campaign went beyond a simple tree-planting event—it was a beautiful occasion where the local community came together to share and express their love for the nation.

▎ Names We Must Not Forget

To all Korean War veterans, members of the Liberation Association, and national patriots—our deepest thanks and respect. It is because of your sacrifice and dedication that we are able to live freely and peacefully today.

May all of us, just like the Icheon Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer in their heartfelt efforts, continue to practice love for our country in our own meaningful ways.
