Planting Seeds of Peace on the Shores of Sri Lanka – Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Beach Cleanup in Colombo

Planting Seeds of Peace on the Shores of Sri Lanka –
Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Beach Cleanup in Colombo

On June 28th, a special movement took place along the beautiful shores of Wellawatte Beach in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was organized by the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Sri Lanka Branch (Branch Leader: Chanuka), who carried out a meaningful beach cleanup activity aimed at preserving the marine ecosystem in this urban area.

▎50 Trash Bags Filled with Sincere Effort

A total of 68 volunteers participated in the event, collecting waste that filled 50 bags (75 liters each). This wasn’t just about cleaning – it was a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting the ocean and our shared environment, especially in increasingly polluted urban coastal areas. The volunteers picked up items with their own hands, demonstrating a deep sense of responsibility and care for the sea.

▎Community Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The cleanup was carried out with the full cooperation of local Colombo city officials and police authorities, allowing for a smooth and well-organized activity.

Branch Leader Chanuka expressed his gratitude, saying: “I sincerely thank the police officers and Colombo City Council sanitation workers who supported this event. We will continue to go wherever help is needed in the community.”

▎Beyond Cleanup – Inspiring Environmental Awareness

This initiative by the Sri Lanka branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group was more than just a one-time event. It delivered a strong message to the community: "Protecting the environment starts with us." Efforts like these, when continued, can lead to a cleaner, healthier future for the coastlines of Colombo and beyond.

▎Volunteering That Builds a Sustainable Tomorrow

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group operates with the mission of providing practical help to neighbors and society, through a wide range of global initiatives. In Sri Lanka, the branch is actively responding to local needs in environmental protection, welfare, education, and more – all grounded in community collaboration and sustainable service.

With continuous efforts, the beautiful beaches of Colombo can remain pristine, and public awareness of environmental responsibility can continue to grow.

Let’s cheer on the volunteers who are making a real difference, one bag of trash at a time.
