Shincheonji Bucheon Church Offers Cold Drinks to Factory Workers to Beat the Heat
Shincheonji Church of Bucheon of Bartholomew Tribe conducted a meaningful campaign to help manufacturing workers suffering from the extreme heat. On July 17 and 21, church members visited ten small factories in the Misan-dong area of Siheung City, distributing ice-cold beverages and promoting heatwave safety guidelines. The initiative aimed to provide tangible support to laborers working under harsh summer conditions.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), as of July 8 this year, 1,228 heat-related illness cases have been reported—an increase of over 2.5 times compared to the previous year. Notably, around 28.7% of these cases occurred in indoor workplaces. This highlights the vulnerability of factory workers operating in enclosed spaces with high-heat machinery.
The volunteers of Bucheon church handed out freshly prepared cold drinks while also sharing practical tips for preventing heat-related illnesses. They emphasized the importance of staying hydrated, provided guidance for those with chronic conditions, and explained simple yet effective workplace precautions. Though small, this gesture brought comfort and encouragement to the workers.
One factory owner said, “The indoor temperature rises above 40°C due to machine heat, so this chilled drink was a great relief.” Another worker commented, “It’s my first time receiving a free drink like this—it was such a surprising and touching gesture.” This unexpected act of kindness served as heartfelt comfort to those enduring the summer heat.
A representative from Bucheon Church stated, “We plan to continue our heatwave prevention campaign and beverage sharing activities throughout the summer, focusing on nearby factories.” Inspired by this event, church members expressed their desire to continue caring for their neighbors through ongoing volunteer efforts. This act of kindness was more than just handing out drinks—it was a sincere expression of community compassion.
