Shincheonji Taekwondo Team Wins at International Competition, 

Elevates Korea’s Martial Arts Prestige

The Taekwondo representative team of Shincheonji Church of Jesus (Chairman Man Hee Lee) achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Kimunyong Cup International Open Taekwondo Championships, with all members winning medals and enhancing Korea’s global standing in martial arts.

Held from July 5 to 8 at the Gijang Indoor Gymnasium in Busan, this large-scale international event drew over 3,000 athletes from 45 countries.

Twelve athletes from the Shincheonji team competed in recognized poomsae and power breaking events. On the first day, all 11 participants in the individual poomsae event won awards.

The team secured two first-place, four second-place, and five third-place finishes, impressing international participants with their high-level techniques and focus.

On the second day, athlete Gong Duhyun took first place and earned MVP honors in the side kick and back kick power breaking events.

Gong Duhyun said “I faced some training difficulties due to injury, but I did my best. When my team’s name was called at the award ceremony, I felt immense pride and gratitude.”

Coach Kim Deok-hoon commented, “This achievement was made possible by God’s help. We will continue to grow and aim for greater success on larger stages.”

The Shincheonji Taekwondo team has consistently shown strong performances in both domestic and international competitions, including the 2024 World Taekwondo Hanmadang in Mungyeong.

Building on this momentum, Shincheonji Church plans to continue fostering athletic talent and promoting holistic well-being through faith and health.

The Kimunyong Cup International Open is held annually in honor of the late Kim Un-yong, who played a key role in making Taekwondo an official Olympic sport.

Co-hosted by Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo, the event serves as a platform for global Taekwondo exchange and sports diplomacy.
