Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gwangmyeong Branch: Fire Prevention, Disability Support & More for the Local Community
From January to June 2025, the Gwangmyeong Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (led by Branch Director Jeon Min-jung) carried out a wide range of volunteer activities in the local community, putting the value of sharing into practice.
Key initiatives included: a health class for people with disabilities, the removal of invasive plants, environmental cleanups through “Clean Day,” a carbon neutrality campaign, and wildfire prevention on Mt. Dodeok — with a total of 111 volunteers taking part.
▎ “Sharing Warmth” Health Lecture for People with Disabilities
The most memorable activity for the volunteers was the "Sharing Warmth" health class held on February 15 at the Gwangmyeong Disabled Persons Association office.
They shared helpful health tips like heart exercises and breathing techniques, and also donated their skills by performing hand massages to support fine motor development.
One volunteer shared, “Holding hands and sharing warmth made me truly feel that love is passed on through volunteering.”
▎ 1.5km Wildfire Prevention Cleanup at Mt. Dodeok
In March, volunteers gathered around Mt. Dodeok for wildfire prevention efforts.
From the mountain’s entrance to a pedestrian path — a stretch of 1.5km — they removed around 50kg of fallen leaves and litter, and educated hikers on fire safety rules.
Volunteers held signs highlighting tips such as: no illegal burning, no smoking, safe disposal of cigarette butts, and how to report fires quickly.
▎ Removing Invasive Plants to Protect Local Ecosystems
In June, a volunteer group gathered at Anteo Ecological Park in Gwangmyeong for invasive plant removal.
They removed around 100kg of harmful plants, contributing to both environmental restoration and visual improvement.
▎ Practicing Carbon Neutrality in Daily Life
At Gwangmyeong Station, volunteers held a street campaign to promote carbon neutrality.
They encouraged people to use reusable shopping bags, reduce single-use items, carry tumblers, and separate food waste as part of simple but meaningful climate actions.
▎ Volunteering is Sharing and Growth
Vice Branch Director Ji Sang-ho emphasized, “Small acts can drive big social change,” and encouraged citizens to join.
Manager Song Myung-ae added, “Volunteering heals not only the recipients but also the givers. I participated with a grateful heart.”
▎ Continuing to Create Positive Impact
The Gwangmyeong Branch plans to continue collaborating with the city hall and community centers to prevent natural disasters and promote environmental sustainability.
