Shincheonji Volunteer Sri Lanka Branch Conducts Clean-Up at Wellawatte Beach
On June 28, the Sri Lanka branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group carried out a large-scale beach cleanup at Wellawatte Beach, one of Colombo’s notable coastal areas.
The initiative aimed to protect the beauty and marine ecosystem of Sri Lanka’s urban coastal areas and received strong support from both local residents and environmental authorities.
A total of 68 volunteers participated, collecting trash that filled 50 large (75L) garbage bags. They also donated plastic waste bins to support long-term environmental cleanliness.
The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) expressed gratitude, noting that such clean-up activities contribute significantly not only to cleanliness but also to biodiversity and ecosystem health.
Participant Meron Fernando shared, “I was surprised by the amount of glass and plastic waste. It felt great to work together to keep our community clean.”
Branch leader Chanuk said, “Thanks to the unexpectedly large turnout, we cleaned the beach quickly. We’ll continue to serve wherever help is needed in the community.”
The Shincheonji Sri Lanka branch plans to continue making positive contributions to society by protecting the marine environment and engaging in various community service efforts.
