Working Toward Carbon Neutrality Together –
A Meaningful Campaign by Shincheonji Volunteer Group Jeonju Branch

In an era of climate crisis, small daily actions are making a big difference for the planet. On July 3, the Jeonju Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (led by Branch Manager Choi Jung-il) carried out a Carbon Neutrality Campaign in the areas around Geonjisan Mountain and the Sori Arts Center of Jeonju, engaging with local citizens in meaningful environmental outreach.

This campaign wasn’t just about raising awareness—it was a practical and interactive opportunity for residents to learn and join the movement for a sustainable future.

▎Carbon Neutrality: A Future We Create Together

The South Korean government is aiming to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, known as carbon neutrality. To this end, various policies and initiatives are being implemented to reduce emissions and increase carbon absorption.

One such initiative, launched by the Korea Environment Corporation, is the Carbon Neutrality Point Program, which offers incentives to households and commercial facilities that reduce their use of electricity, water, and gas. These savings are reinvested into solar power projects for energy-vulnerable communities.

To support this national goal, the Jeonju Branch volunteers hit the streets to encourage citizens to take part in these efforts through real, everyday practices.

▎Spreading the Message with Icy Bottled Water

Despite the summer heat, over 50 volunteers actively explained how to practice zero waste living and introduced the Carbon Neutrality Point Program to passersby.

As part of the campaign, the team distributed iced bottled water labeled with informative stickers highlighting eco-friendly habits.

The stickers listed the following tips:
▪  Use e-receipts instead of printed ones
▪  Bring a reusable cup instead of using disposable ones at cafés
▪  Properly sort and recycle high-quality recyclables
▪  Join the "1.5℃ Climate Action" app and accumulate points for green behaviors

▎Ending the Day with Plogging!

After the street campaign, the team engaged in plogging—a combination of jogging and picking up litter—to collect trash and promote a hands-on approach to protecting the environment.

One participant, Yoo Sang-chul (alias, 63, from Songcheon-dong, Jeonju), shared, “I realized how important it is to separate waste properly—like removing the plastic film and deflating bottles after drinking water. Now that I know the points are used for good causes, I’ll be even more diligent.”

▎Small Actions, Big Impact

Branch Manager Choi Jung-il emphasized: “Living a carbon-neutral life starts with small, everyday actions. Raising environmental awareness and encouraging these habits can truly become a step toward saving the planet.”

The Jeonju Branch plans to continue spreading awareness of carbon neutrality and carry out regular environmental protection activities with the local community.

▎Serving the Community with Heart

In addition to this campaign, the Jeonju Branch is known for various ongoing volunteer programs, such as: Protect the green nature, the more the better, plogging, Kimchi sharing, aiming to spread a culture of sharing and community spirit across the region.

Their warm-hearted dedication to both people and the planet continues, one action at a time.
