In the midst of a record-breaking heatwave, a meaningful volunteer activity took place to help people enjoy a cooler summer. On August 8, the Namdong Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group carried out a fan-cleaning service at the Manbu Village Senior Center in Namdong-gu, Incheon, under the theme "Wise Summer Living." The activity was aimed at helping elderly residents stay cool and comfortable during the sweltering weather.
Manbu Village in Incheon was formed in the 1970s by residents displaced from other areas, and today it has a high elderly population. To assist seniors who have difficulty cleaning their own fans, the Namdong Branch collected the fans, thoroughly cleaned them, and returned them to their owners. Regular maintenance is important for fans used over the summer, as dust and mold buildup can cause respiratory problems.
A representative from the Namdong Branch stated, "We knew that many seniors found it difficult to clean their fans, so we prepared a collection and cleaning service." They also added, "We plan to continue volunteer activities to support the health and convenience of elderly residents." This activity went beyond simple cleaning—it reflected thoughtful care for a safe and healthy summer for the community’s seniors.
Meanwhile, the Namdong Branch had previously improved the village environment through a mural painting project in Manbu Village. Requests from residents for more murals suggest that the warm partnership between the Shincheonji Volunteer Group and Manbu Village will continue in the future. Such ongoing efforts help make the village a more vibrant and welcoming place to live.
