Shincheonji Volunteer Icheon Branch Launches ‘Summer Heat Illness Prevention Campaign’ Amid Scorching Heat
As the sweltering heat continues day after day, efforts to protect public health are in motion. The Icheon Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group recently held a ‘Summer Heat Illness Prevention Campaign’ in the Cultural Street of Jungang-dong. The campaign was designed to provide practical support to residents worn out by the heatwave. It focused on helping people stay safe and healthy while raising awareness of heat-related risks.
With nearly 2,180 heat-related illness cases reported nationwide this year alone, the situation is alarming. To address this, the Icheon branch set out to raise awareness about the risks, symptoms, and prevention of heat illnesses. The aim was to empower citizens to protect themselves during extreme heat. The campaign went beyond information sharing, offering tools for real-life application.
At the campaign site, citizens received “Heat Illness Prevention Kits” to help combat the extreme heat. The kits included cooling towels, bottled water, wipes, and cooling patches for instant relief. Informational leaflets explaining symptoms and coping strategies were also distributed. All items were chosen for their practical usefulness in everyday situations.
Participants expressed gratitude for the cold water and cooling supplies they received. One resident shared, “Thanks to the ice water and cooling items, I could cool off even for a short while. I also learned how important it is to prevent heat illnesses.”. Such feedback underscored the campaign’s real value and positive impact.
An official from the Icheon branch commented on the growing severity of heatwaves due to climate change, saying “Many people suffer from heat illnesses, yet few know how to respond effectively. We hope that by sharing this information, more citizens can stay safe and healthy during the summer.” He also hinted at continued community-focused efforts in the future.
Meanwhile, it's important to remember that prevention is the best defense against heat illness. Avoid going outdoors or exercising between noon and 5 PM whenever possible. Even if you’re not thirsty, drink water every 20 minutes to stay hydrated. Wear breathable clothing and use wide-brimmed hats or parasols for extra protection.
