‘We Are One’ Incheon Federation Leads the Way
in Overcoming Summer Blood Shortages
The Youth Volunteer Group "We Are One" Incheon Federation has taken the initiative to address the blood supply shortage during the summer vacation season. The federation is operating a “Relay Blood Donation Bus” to encourage active youth participation. On August 14, a day before Korea’s Liberation Day, the first group donation took place at Bupyeong Park. After donating blood, participants created a handprint Taegeukgi (Korean national flag) together to honor the spirit of Liberation Day.
The donation bus will be operated in a relay format by seven local branches, including Incheon, West Incheon, and Mansu, every Friday for four consecutive weeks. Alongside advance promotions, on-site activities will include a blood donation campaign and outreach for the donation app “Red Connect.” These efforts go beyond participation, positioning young volunteers as key players in spreading a culture of blood donation.
‘We Are One’ has set a nationwide goal of 10,000 blood donors from July 27 to October 18. The Incheon Federation plans to contribute 600 of these, and within just three weeks, 180 donors have already participated. One young member shared that “learning the importance of blood donation encouraged me to take better care of my health through diet and supplements,” highlighting the meaningful impact of voluntary participation.
Kim Young-seop, head of the Incheon Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross, noted that “summer vacations and school breaks are times when blood donations typically decrease,” and emphasized that ‘We Are One’ campaign will provide vital support. He also highlighted the group’s role as “cultural ambassadors of blood donation,” stressing the importance of young people designing campaigns, producing promotional content, and encouraging participation from their communities.
