Collect 3.5 days' worth of blood reserves in 2 weeks... Resolving the national blood shortage at a stroke

Blood Management Headquarters, relief in securing stable blood volume after sharp drop in blood volume due to COVID-19

Helping in every national crisis followed by the group plasma donation to develop a treatment for COVID-19,

In order to solve the national blood shortage, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Chairman Man Hee Lee, hereafter referred to as Shincheonji Church of Jesus) conducted a group blood donation for 2 weeks from the 18th of the last month to 1st of this month. 18,478 saints far exceeding the original estimate of 6,000 completed group blood donations. A total of 27,026 people participated in the group blood donation.

According to the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, blood donations of 18,000 people are equivalent to 3.5 days' worth supply. The average amount of blood used by medical institutions nationwide per day is 5,029. The nation's blood supply shortage due to the spread of the mutation of COVID-19 has been resolved at a stroke with the voluntary blood donation of the members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus.

In fact, before Shincheonji Church of Jesus started the group blood donation, domestic blood reserves were only a little over 3 days' supply which is greatly insufficient when considering the proper reserve is 5 days' supply. So the blood supply was in a state of emergency. As of the 1st of this month, the amount of blood reserves in Korea which Shincheonji Church of Jesus has completed group blood donation has soared to 5.0 days' supply.

Aiming to ‘resolve the shortage of blood supply’ beyond participation in group blood donation

Shincheonji Church of Jesus started with the goal of solving the blood shortage in Korea, which has become serious problem due to the spread of COVID-19 Omicron, rather than simply participating in this group blood donation.

However, due to the COVID-19 Omicron pandemic, it is impossible to predict how much blood donation will be possible when considering blood donation is possible after one month being cured and the health or personal conditions after being confirmed. So, it was aimed for 6,000 people that exceeded the amount of blood used a day.

Shincheonji Church of Jesus across the country encouraged members to donate blood as much as possible in order to raise the number of people who could donate in consideration of the average 40% of unqualified people. As a result, on the first day of group blood donation which was 18th of the last month, 3,000 people visited the site of blood donation. Among them, 2,000 people donated blood. Starting from that day, Shincheonji Church of Jesus achieved its goal of 6,000 people in just three days.

However, after hearing that the national blood shortage hasn't been resolved, the saints voluntarily rushed to the blood donation site Not only that, the saints of Shincheonji Church of Jesus and their families who heard the news also participated in this group blood donation, achieving an unprecedented miracle of donating blood to 18,478 people in two weeks.

This is in line with the fact that a total of 6,000 people participated in the donation of plasma for the development of a treatment for COVID-19 which was conducted over three times at the request of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of the initial COVID-19, when there was no vaccine or treatment in 2020. Even at that time, while suffering the aftereffects of Corona 19 and mental difficulties, all the saints of the church took steps to overcome the national crisis and received attention not only at home but also abroad.

To encourage the voluntary participation of members and the blood donation campaign, on the first day of the group blood donation, ministers including the headquarters of the General Assembly and prominent figure of 74 churches across the country took the lead in donating blood.

For this group blood donation, various members, from the largest number of blood donors to the first blood donors, gathered their hearts. There are 16 members in this group blood donation who donated blood more than 100 times and the most blood donor among them is the Ulsan Church member Choi Byung-hyuk, who participated 538 times so far and was inducted into the Blood Management Headquarters Hall of Fame. In addition, many young men in their 20s and women participated in blood donation for the first time in their lives after hearing the news of a national crisis.

Donate both blood donor card and blood donation certificate

Shincheonji Church of Jesus plans to donate all blood donor card and blood donation certificate collected through group blood donation for two weeks to the Korean Red Cross on the 9th. Blood donation certificate is a system in which people donate the amount of money instead of receiving souvenirs after donating blood and this system is promoted by The Korean Red Cross. Shincheonji Church of Jesus asked the members who participated in the blood donation to choose it, and the donation certificate that have been collected so far are equivalent to 100 million won.

An official from the Blood Bank said, “Many saints of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus are participating to fill the insufficient blood supply and demand. There is no organization that does this considering the fact that the daily average is already reached. What was particularly impressive was that they were trying to recruit twice as many eligible people considering that there would be ineligible applicants among blood donation applicants. I felt that they were working hard with us. I sincerely thank you."

We are reaching our daily average target well enough, but there is no organization that does this. What was particularly impressive was that we are trying to recruit twice as many people as eligible, considering that there will be unqualified people among blood donation applicants. It felt like working with us. Thank you very much,” he said.

Another official said, “I was deeply moved when 6,000 members of the church donated plasma for the development of a treatment for COVID-19 in 2020. Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to Shincheonji Church of Jesus, who has stepped forward in times of national crisis.”

Shincheonji Church of Jesus said, “It is even more meaningful because it was a blood donation in which all the members participated with one mind. I would like to express my gratitude to the saints who took one step forward when hearing the shortage of blood supply nationally, and I will diligently play the role of light and salt and have faith to glorify God.”

  1. 18,628 blood donors from Shincheonji Church of Jesus have effectively restored the emergency blood supply crisis in South Korea with the largest blood donation by any single organisation within just two weeks. The Korean Red Cross has likened SCJ’s voluntary contribution to ‘’rain during a season of drought”. Moreover, all SCJ donors waived their donor rights, equivalent to 110 million Korean won (£70,000), and gifted them to the Red Cross. Why is mainstream media not reporting this? Kudos to Shincheonji.
