[Shincheonji Volunteer] Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gyeongju Branch Carries Out 'Protect the green nature' Environmental Cleanup Ahead of APEC
With the 2025 APEC Summit drawing global attention to the city of Gyeongju, local citizens are actively preparing to ensure the success of this significant international event. At the heart of these efforts is the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Gyeongju Branch.
On April 13, the Gyeongju branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group carried out their environmental cleanup project, ‘Protect the green nature’, at Hwangseong Park, one of the city’s representative urban healing spaces. Around 70 volunteers participated in the activity, collecting approximately 900 liters of trash along walking trails from the park entrance near the city library to the civic stadium, helping to restore the park's beauty.
▎ What is 'Protect the green nature'?
‘Protect the green nature’ is a regular volunteer campaign organized by the Shincheonji Volunteer Group aimed at preserving the natural environment and protecting cultural assets. This activity is not merely about cleaning but is a meaningful action to pass down a cleaner, greener environment to the next generation.
▎ The Significance of Hwangseong Park and APEC Preparations
Hwangseong Park is one of Gyeongju’s signature urban green spaces, home to over 13,700 trees from 59 species including pines and zelkova trees. It draws numerous domestic and international visitors every year and becomes particularly crowded in April during the Ceramic Festival.
To prepare for the upcoming APEC Summit scheduled for October at Bomun Complex, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group launched this cleanup project not only to improve the park’s appearance but also to leave a positive and welcoming impression of Gyeongju on visitors from around the world.
▎ Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Heartwarming Steps
Continuing consistent volunteer activities with love for both community and nature, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has been engaging in volunteer activities. This ‘Protect the green nature’ initiative goes beyond simple cleaning — it marks the first step toward promoting Gyeongju as a clean and hospitable city to its citizens, tourists, and the global community.
With many more community outreach projects to come, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group is expected to continue making a positive impact, one step at a time.
