Preparing for Torrential Rain! Dongincheon Branch Carries Out Storm Drain Cleaning Ahead of the Rainy Season
◆ Worried about flooding with the upcoming rainy season?
In the area around North Plaza at Dongincheon Station in Dong-gu, Incheon, warm-hearted volunteers have been hard at work to ease those concerns. These dedicated individuals are none other than the volunteers of the Shincheonji Volunteer’s Dongincheon Branch.
On June 14th, 25 volunteers from the Dongincheon Branch (Branch Manager Soo Cheon Kim) carried out a cleaning operation of the storm drains (rainwater drainage pipes). They removed fallen leaves, trash, and sediment that could block the smooth drainage of rainwater during heavy downpours.
◆ Do You Remember the Heavy Rain in August 2022?
On August 8, 2022, the southern area of Dongincheon Station was hit by a record-breaking rainstorm, with rainfall reaching 80mm per hour. In just 30 minutes, roads were submerged up to an adult’s knee height. Subway tracks, nearby shops, and other facilities suffered severe damage
This event emphasized the importance of preventive measures, and as a result, the storm drain cleaning activity has been continued in the same area again this year, just as it was last year.
◆ "Thank You for Your Continued Support This Year"
The Incheon Dong-gu Volunteer Center once again requested the support of the Dongincheon Branch ahead of the rainy season expected to start around June 25th, and the volunteers willingly stepped up.
A representative of the Volunteer Center stated, “Last year, thanks to the Dongincheon Branch covering the storm drains, we were able to prevent flood damage. We’re very grateful for their active cooperation again this year.”
◆ Steps Toward Public Safety
A representative of the Dongincheon Branch said,
“Sediment, leaves, and garbage that accumulate inside storm drains block drainage and eventually lead to road flooding. We hope this activity helps citizens live in a safer and more pleasant environment.”
