Remembering Devotion to the Nation – Shincheonji Volunteer Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch Successfully Hosts ‘Patriotic Month’ Event

Remembering Devotion to the Nation –
Shincheonji Volunteer Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch
Successfully Hosts ‘Patriotic Month’ Event

In June, we observe Patriotic Month to remember and honor the noble sacrifices of those who devoted themselves to the nation.
In this meaningful time, the Shincheonji Volunteer Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch (Branch President Kim Su-jin) successfully hosted the event, “Patriotic Month with the Shincheonji Volunteer Group.”

This event was held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War, and was joined by over 50 officials from local veterans’ organizations such as the Korean War Veterans Association, Korea Agent Orange Veterans Association, Korean Decorations of Honor Association, and Vietnam War Veterans Association in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region.

▎ A Living History Lesson to Feel the War’s Memory

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the exhibition and experience booths.
A photo exhibition under the theme “The Korean War and the Activities of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group” conveyed the vivid traces of veterans, moving the hearts of attendees. A booth recreating the wartime meals that soldiers actually ate during the war also drew significant attention from the public.

There were also a variety of hands-on experiences for both children and adults, including:
▪ Testing Mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) Ade
▪ Making Korean flag fans
▪ Writing thank-you letters to war veterans
▪ Making Mugunghwa bracelets & stencil eco-bags

Through these activities, participants were able to naturally internalize the significance of patriotism and remembrance.

▎ A Scene Full of Gratitude and Emotion

From traditional Korean drumming performances to harmonica and accordion recitals, and even a song performance by a veteran’s family member! The cultural programs added warmth and emotion to the atmosphere.

Kim Su-jin, president of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer, said in her opening remarks: “It is an honor to hold such a meaningful event with the heroes who protected our nation. Thanks to your dedication, we are able to live in freedom and peace today.”

In addition, 96-year-old Korean War veteran Ha Yoon Do shared: “So many people sacrificed their lives and over 70% of our land was destroyed during the war. Such a tragedy must never happen again. I am grateful for this opportunity to reflect on the spirit of patriotism and remembrance.”

Volunteer participant Baek Jong Min (27 years old) said: “I was deeply moved by the sacrifices of the elderly who went to war at such a young age. I am here to remember their dedication so it will never be forgotten.”

▎ Continuing Historical Education and Veteran Support

This event was more than just a commemorative ceremony. It served as a moment to reaffirm the lessons of war and the value of peace. Particularly noteworthy was the educational value of the hands-on booths, which enabled intergenerational communication.

The Shincheonji Volunteers plans to continue expanding cooperation with veterans’ organizations and will push forward with: Historical experience programs for youth
Various commemorative events

▎ Memory is Responsibility

The peace we enjoy today is by no means a given.
It is made possible by the blood and sweat of those who lived through a different era.

Thus, remembering the past and expressing gratitude, and creating opportunities to learn from history, are responsibilities we must carry forward.

This event hosted by the Shincheonji Volunteers Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch stands as a model example, leaving a warm impression on the hearts of many.

▎ Why not participate in or support events like this?

A small gesture of interest can turn into a powerful memory and that memory becomes the strength that upholds peace.
