[Shincheonji Volunteer] ‘Hidden Heroes’
Who Braved the Harsh Weather…
The 13th Gimpo Hangang Marathon Successfully Concludes

- Warm Dedication That Defied Hail and Strong Winds – A Story of Volunteer Service by the Gimpo Branch -

On April 13th, the 13th Gimpo Hangang Marathon was held in Gimpo City, drawing over 7,000 participants. Despite the extreme weather conditions, the event concluded successfully — thanks in large part to the quiet but steadfast efforts of dedicated volunteers working behind the scenes.

▎ Shining Through the Storm – Gimpo Branch Volunteers Step Up
That day, hail and strong winds swept through the area, dropping the perceived temperature significantly. Even so, volunteers from the Gimpo Branch of Shincheonji Volunteer Group (led by Director Shin Dong-guk) arrived early in the morning and assisted with the marathon’s operation for over eight hours.

The Gimpo Branch set up hydration stations throughout the marathon course, providing water, drinks, energy bars, and bananas to help prevent symptoms of low blood sugar in runners. Their enthusiastic cheers of “Fighting!” echoed along the course, leaving a warm and lasting impression on many citizens.

▎ Stories of Sincere Volunteers
Volunteer Ms. Oh Mi-sook (50) shared, “Seeing the runners pushing through despite the harsh weather made it easy to cheer them on. This day’s service felt more meaningful and rewarding than ever.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Hwang Young-chan (29), also from the Gimpo Branch, joined the marathon not as a volunteer but as a runner. “Just knowing someone volunteered their time for me is something I’m incredibly grateful for. Running with my wife made the day even more special — it was a memory I’ll cherish.”

▎ Sustainable Volunteering with the Local Community
Shin Hyun-sil, Director of the Gimpo Volunteer Center, expressed her appreciation: “The Gimpo Branch actively supports every major event in our city. They participate regardless of whether it's a weekday or weekend, and their involvement across various age groups provides a tremendous boost to our community.”

A representative from the Gimpo Branch commented, “This was our first time participating in the city’s marathon, making it all the more meaningful. We plan to take part every year from now on.” They emphasized their ongoing commitment to community engagement and providing practical, meaningful help through consistent volunteer work.

Even in the face of stormy weather, the unwavering dedication of the Gimpo Branch volunteers has touched the hearts of many. True volunteerism isn't about grandeur — it's about showing up when it matters most.
