[Shincheonji, Intermediate Lesson 15]
Testimony on the Revelation of the Old and New Testaments by Chapter,
The Food of God and the Food of Satan / Jn 6 (Rv 2, Rv 17-18)
Pastors, seminarians and saints around the world who carry out the life of faith with the hope in heaven and eternal life, it is nice to meet you. I am Sung Chang Ho, the head of the Ma San church of Busan James tribe of Shincheonji Church of Jesus. I sincerely thank you for attending the Shincheonji online seminar testimony on the revelation of the Old and New Testaments by chapter.
God’s word of life which will examine today is the intermediate lesson 15, the food of God and the food of Satan. The main references are the words of John 6, Revelation 2 and Revelation 17-18. There may be pastors who know about this already and others who do not know. But I hope that you will listen to what I am explaining at this time today.
And I hope that this will be a precious time to remind ourselves once again how important it is to understand about the food of God and the food of Satan for the believers who hope for heaven and eternal life.
I will give a brief introduction to the main references. The time of recording is about 2,000 years ago and the writer or the recorder is Apostle John. He has recorded 21 chapters of the gospel of John and 1, 2, 3 John as well as the last book of the New Testament Revelation. Apostle John was one of Jesus’ 12 disciples and is a son of Zebedee, the brother of James.
First, before examining the food of God and the food of Satan, let’s take a look at the two main types of food in the Bible. In the Bible, there are two types of food, the physical food eaten with the mouth and the spiritual food that is received with the ears. Physical food is the food for the physical body and there is a food that when you eat of it becomes your flesh and blood so it gives you life. It keeps you alive and there is the food that if you eat it it kills your body.
Likewise, spiritual food is the food for the spirit. And there is food that gives life to your spirit when you eat it and there is food that kills your spirit when you eat it. In order for a person to live both the physical and the spiritual food are needed. People in the world know very well of the physical food. The food that we believers want to know and also that Jesus wants to let us believers know is a spiritual food that gives life to the spirit.
The food of God and the food of Satan that we will examine together at this time are also types of spiritual food that we receive with our ears. In the reference chapter of John 6, Jesus had said I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Is this bread the physical food or the spiritual food? Yes that’s right. It is the spiritual food that you listen to with your ears in order to eat and understand.
So at this time we will take a look at the spiritual food, the food that leads to eternal life that Jesus had wanted us to really understand.
John 6 can also be called as a chapter of bread. And it is the best chapter that’s summarized well about the food in the Bible. First, let’s take a look at John chapter 6:1~27.
Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee, that is the Sea of Tiberias and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Feast was near. When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?"
He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" Philip was very realistic and up to this point Philip did not have the confidence that Jesus could solve this problem easily even after seeing the many miracles that Jesus had performed.
Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
Jesus prayed to God and fed the 5,000 people with five barley loaves and two fish that one child had. After the many people ate, he gathered up the remaining pieces and found 12 baskets. The bread that remained after feeding the 5,000 people on that day was the physical food like the manna that God gave to the Israelites after their exodus from Egypt. This miracle was a brief demonstration that Jesus was a son of God whom God was together with.
After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world." Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself. The poor people focused their attention on the bread that satisfied their body immediately rather than the spiritual matters so they tried to make Jesus a king by force.
However, Jesus was not the savior who came to solve the material problems as the people of Israel had hoped. So he read their thoughts that were different from God’s will and ran away to a mountain.
When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified. But he said to them, "It is I; don't be afraid." Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
Looking at Matthew 14:22-23 which is the same content Jesus has his disciples go to Capernaum by boat. He went up on a mountain by himself to pray and then came by walking on the lake to the boat which was among the waves caused by a great wind.
The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?"
A crowd of people who had tasted the miracle of 5,000 people with 5 barley loaves and 2 fish came to find Jesus and his disciples by crossing the sea on a boat all the way to Capernaum. It must be great faith. Let’s take a look at Jesus’ answer to those who came to Jesus by faith.
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."
Jesus said that they were looking for him because they ate the loaves and had their fill and also said not to work for food that spoils but for food that endures to eternal life. And he said that the food that endures to eternal life is provided by Jesus the son of man. Everyone, do you know about these two types of foods? Are you working for the food that spoils or are you working for the food that endures to eternal life?
The food for eternal life is not given by anyone. But there is someone especially who gives this food. Do you know who this is? The food that spoils is the physical food as we had talked about before that we eat with our mouths and the food that endures to eternal life is a spiritual food that we listen to and eat with our ears. Now, let’s look at the spiritual food that endures to eternal life which Jesus had told us to work for
First, there are two types of spiritual foods, one the food that your spirit lives upon eating and the other that your spirit dies upon eating. The food of God and the food of Satan which we are examining today are the two types of spiritual food. As you all think, the food of God that God who is life gives is the food that gives life to the spirit. And the food of Satan who has the power of death is the food that kills the spirit.
In the Bible there is food that leads you to eternal life if you eat of it and there is food that is said that if you eat of it you will surely die. Have you heard about this before? Yes, that’s right. They are the fruit of the tree of life and the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. According to Genesis 2:9, in the center of the garden of Eden in the east where the sun rises there were two trees, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
It was said in Genesis 3:22 if you eat from the tree of life you will have eternal life. But in Genesis 2:17, it is said that if you eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil you will surely die. As we all know well, in Genesis 3, the wild serpent created by God had deceived Adam and Eve with the lie and made them eat the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil which was forbidden by God.
Because of this creation, the wild serpent and the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil all of creation as well as mankind had fallen into death and suffering. And God the creator left this global world and also Jesus the only begotten son of God had to take up the cross. That is why Apostle Paul said in Romans 5:12 that death entered through one man and life came through another man.
Here in Genesis 3, Adam and Eve who ate the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil had surely died just as it was recorded in the Bible. But did their bodies die right away? Or was it the spirits that had died right away? As we know very well even after eating of this fruit Adam gave birth to his children and died at the age of 930. That’s right. These two trees in the center of the garden and the two types of food on these trees were the food of the spirit. And the spirit of Adam which had eaten from the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil had died.
The people born of the seed of Adam’s sinful gene due to Adam’s transgressions are us and the people of the global community. Just as Adam died from eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil all those born of the seed of this gene also became the subjects to death. Therefore, in order to avoid death of the spirit and to gain life, all people in the global community need God’s food, the fruit of the tree of life which is the food that saves the spirit more than anything else.
To know the fruit of the tree of life and the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we need to know the reality of the three of life and of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This secret that all believers of the world had wanted to know will be explained in greater detail in intermediate lesson 17, the actual realities of the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil by an instructor who is more competent than I. So please stay tuned with great expectation.
Today we will be looking into the food that comes from the two trees: the food of God and the food of Satan. First is the food of God. The food of God is the food that gives life and if you eat of it you will gain eternal life. John 6:28-71 is about the flesh and the blood of Jesus, the living bread that came down from heaven and God’s food for eternal life. Due to time constraints, I will read John 6:51-58 which is the key content among these verses and examine the food of God that leads to eternal life.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."
In the words of John 6:51-58, Jesus said that he himself was a living bread that came down from heaven. And he said that those who eat his flesh and drink his blood will have eternal life. Then, the Jews who heard this began to argue sharply saying how can Jesus give them his flesh to eat? And they began to argue sharply among themselves. Would this word about food really be about the physical food telling them to eat Jesus’ physical flesh and drink his physical blood as they had thought?
In John 8:51-52, Jesus said that if a person keeps Jesus’ words he will never see death. In other words it means that this person would live forever and have eternal life. In John 1:1-4, it is said that God is the word and life. And as we see in 1 John 1:1-2, Jesus is also the word. The flesh and the blood of Jesus the food for eternal life is the words of life of Jesus that is given by Jesus who is the word. And this is not physical food but spiritual food. And this is the food of God that leads to eternal life.
So, in John 6:51, Jesus said that he was the living bread that came down from heaven. This is because at the first coming when the prophecies in Ezekiel 1, 2, 3 of the Old Testament were fulfilled. God came to Jesus from heaven and fed Jesus with the bread of the word of the scroll that he himself had opened.
That is why Jesus said that he was the living bread that came down from heaven in John 6. And this was not the physical food eaten through the mouth but it was a spiritual food eaten and received through the ears. And in John 15:1, Jesus said that he was the true vine and in John 14:6, he said that he was the life and so Jesus was the tree of life. And Jesus’ words of life that were given by the true pastor by Jesus is a fruit of the tree of life that leads to eternal life when one eats of it as mentioned in Genesis 3:22.
In conclusion, the tree of life that endures to eternal life was Jesus, the true pastor. And the fruit of the tree of life was Jesus’ words of life and this was the food of God. To eat the food of God means to believe and to acknowledge the words of life of the true pastor. Believers who hoped for heaven and eternal life at the first coming needed to find this Jesus and to believe and acknowledge the word of life which Jesus had given. In order for them to have eternal life.
Now, on the contrary we will take a look at the food of Satan that kills the spirit of the man. In Daniel 4, we see that Nebuchadnezzar, king of the gentile kingdom of Babylon was compared to a large tree that was a bad vine. It was said to have abundant fruit with the beasts of the field underneath it. Babylon appears again in Revelation 17, 18. This Babylon is a kingdom of demons and they destroy all nations with the wine of adultery and had married with demons.
This tree was God’s choicest vine in Isaiah 5. The tree of life but by bearing bad grapes it became a bad tree, a bad vine, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The reason why Jesus said he was a true vine in John 15:1 was because as you can see there are the bad vines. These two types of trees were the Israelites.
The people used to be the tree of life but they betrayed to become the tree of good and evil. This is like the act of betrayal of Solomon as well as that of Adam. Just like these prophecies the actual entities of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that feed Satan’s food, the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil had appeared at the first coming. And they were the Pharisees who were the shepherds of Jerusalem at that time they were called the serpents.
In Matthew 23:33, in Revelation 12:9, the serpent is called as Satan, the devil so the Pharisees were Satan’s shepherds; they were the false pastors. In conclusion, the devil’s tree of the knowledge of good and evil were the Pharisees; they were the false pastors. The knowledge of good and evil that kills the spirit of man that is the food of Satan at the first coming was the doctrine of falsehood given by the Pharisees, the false shepherds. Therefore, to eat Satan’s food is to accept the falsehood from the false pastors and those who eat it will die spiritually.
To all believers all over the world we believe in God and the Bible. The situation at the time of the first coming in the Bible is very sad and unfortunate. The Jews at the time of the first coming who had hoped for heaven and eternal life did not understand the word of God as mentioned in Hosea 4:6. So they ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the food of Satan rather than the words of Jesus, the fruit of the tree of life which was God’s food. And instead they persecuted, blasphemed and even killed Jesus. And they were cursed and eventually went to hell.
Using this history as an example and a warning I hope that we will find the tree of life and its fruit through the word in the Father’s kingdom that is appearing today. And all become the family of heaven who eats God’s food and lives forever.
Now the most important time for us today is a time of the Lord’s second coming. At the first coming, Jesus gave the promise with the hope that all believers today will eat God’s food and live eternally. This promise of Jesus is a new covenant established with the blood of Jesus.
In Luke 22:14-20, on the night of the Passover, Jesus established a new covenant with his blood. He said the flesh and the blood of Jesus the Passover meal would not be eaten until the Father’s kingdom comes and is fulfilled. In other words, it is a promise that when the Father’s kingdom comes and is fulfilled it will be eaten in his kingdom.
As we have seen earlier in John 6:51-58, the flesh and the blood of Jesus are the food of God for eternal life upon eating it. That is the food of the spirit that we hear and we eat with our ears. And it is said that this is a new covenant which will be hidden and will not be eaten. But when it comes time to fulfill the new covenant, it will be eaten in the Father’s kingdom.
In 1 Corinthians 15:51-54, there is a promise of resurrection and eternal life that at the last trumpet the dead will be raised imperishable and we will be changed. So when the perishable is clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality then death will be swallowed up in victory. This last trumpet sound will also become the food of God for eternal life at the second coming of the Lord.
Everyone, don’t you want to eat the food of god for eternal life today? Is there anyone who likes death and pain, if there is anyone then would you raise your hand? Of all people in the world no one likes death and suffering. God is life and he is the one who always fulfills his promises.
This is the food promised by our Jesus by giving the blood of his life. Today, I hope that there are no sad souls who miss the food of eternal life in front of their eyes just because they do not understand the word just like it was at the time of the first coming.
Now, we will take a look at the flesh and the blood of Jesus and the sound of the last trumpet which has been hidden in the new covenant that is the food of God for eternal life at the second coming of the Lord when the prophecies of the New Testament are fulfilled today.
The blood of Jesus which is God’s food for eternal life has been hidden until the fulfillment of the new covenant Revelation. It is the food of life that can be eaten when the book of Revelation is fulfilled. So in the prophecy of Revelation it is written about those who drink the blood of Jesus and have eternal life.
God’s work is fulfilled according to this promise. As we see in Revelation 5:9-10, there was a kingdom of God and the priests purchased by the blood of Jesus. And in Revelation 7:14, the great multitude in white who wash their robes clean in the blood of Jesus appears. These are the people who drink the blood of Jesus at the second coming of the Lord and the realities are the priests and the great multitude dressed in white of the 12 tribes of God’s kingdom.
Then, to find out how they can drink the blood of Jesus, let’s read Revelation 2:17.
Yes, you’ve read well. Jesus gave the one who overcomes the food that was hidden in the new covenant that is the flesh and the blood of Jesus which is the hidden manna for eternal life. Therefore, just as at the time of the first coming, when one was able to eat God’s food for eternal life only by meeting the son of man Jesus and only through him at the second coming in order to eat God’s food for eternal life, one must meet the one who overcomes and through him they can receive the food for eternal life and eat of it.
And in Revelation 5, Jesus took the sealed scroll that was in the right hand of God which was sealed with seven seals and Jesus opened and fulfilled this in Revelation 6 and 8 and then gave the opened word of revelation to the New John to eat through the angel in Revelation 10 and commanded the New John to prophesy again to the peoples, nations, languages and kings.
This opened word of revelation which used to be hidden before the time of the fulfillment of Revelation but was opened and fulfilled by Jesus is the hidden manna, the food for eternal life. This is not a physical food but the spiritual food that is listened to through the ears and this can only be received through the one who overcomes at the time of the Lord’s second coming.
In this way, the fruit of the tree of life which is God’s food for eternal life at the second coming of the Lord is prophesied in various names, the blood of Jesus, the hidden manna, the opened word of revelation and even hearing the sound of the 7th trumpet recorded in Revelation 11:15 which is the fulfillment of the promise in 1 Corinthians 15. All of this is God’s food. And they are the fruit of the tree of life which saves our spirit.
If this food appeared today, wouldn’t we all have to eat of this food? Listening to this food of eternal life at the second coming of the Lord and eating it, is the reason why Jesus had shed his blood on the cross to establish the new covenant at the time of the first coming?
Now, where can we listen to and eat the food of God, this important food for eternal life at the time of the Lord’s second coming? The place where you can eat God’s food of eternal life at the second coming of the Lord is as promised in Revelation 15:1-5, the place where there is the one who overcomes where God the source of life and Jesus and the heavens are together with so that the word of eternal life comes from this place.
This is the place where all nations come to worship, which is the only place out of the whole world, Shincheonji, The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony. This is the Bible and God’s promise. So I hope that you will fully perceive, find and eat the food for eternal life and receive all of heaven and eternal life that is approaching.
Now on the other hand we are going to take a look at the food of death, Satan’s food which we must absolutely not eat today. First, let’s read the words of Revelation 18:2-3.
Yes, you’ve read well. In Revelation 17, there is a prostitute who has the name Babylon written on her forehead. This prostitute is a false pastor who receives Satan’s seed not God’s seed and raises her children. And it is said that the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries and that is falsehood from the false pastors.
As seen in Revelation 18, this Babylon is the home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit and it is said that all nations have drunk and maddening wine of her adulteries. In Revelation 18:23, it is also said that all the nations are married to the demons. It is truly a sad and unfortunate reality.
Since it is said that all nations have drunk and were destroyed by the false pastors lies through the wine of adultery which is Satan’s food. There is no exception then, right? What do all of you think? God is life and he is love. In order to heal all these nations that have fallen in Revelation 22, he made the tree of life and he is restoring all nations to the leaves of that tree.
Dear pastors, seminarians and saints all around the world, God is life and he is salvation. I hope that we all come to Shincheonji, the holy city of Revelation 22 where there is a tree of life by believing in God and the word eat the fruit from the tree of life that leads to eternal life and be healed so that we can become the children of God who are with God, Jesus and the kingdom of heaven forever.
Now is the conclusion of today’s content.
The two types of spiritual food which we have looked at today are the food that we listen to to eat. There are God’s food which you have eternal life once you eat of it and Satan’s food that you will surely die when you eat of it.
God’s food are the words of life from the true pastor. And Satan’s food are the lies from the false pastor. To eat God’s food is to hear and acknowledge the true pastor’s words of life. And to eat Satan’s food is to accept the false pastor’s lies.
It is all nations. When all nations have drunk, maddening wine of adulteries today, we should not drink the wine of adulteries which is Satan’s food which is the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. But by receiving and eating the hidden manna which is the food of God or the fruit of the tree of life that comes out from Shincheonji, The Temple of Tabernacle of the Testimony and through the one who overcomes let us become part of the 12 tribes as the priests and the great multitude in white within God’s kingdom. And be the children of God who inherit the kingdom of heaven and eternal life.
Did you all listen well today? Next time we will share on intermediate lesson 16, the place prepared by Jesus and the spirit of truth the counselor with the main reference of John 14 and 16. I hope that it will be a precious time for you to perceive for the spirit of truth the counselor who comes in the name of Jesus comes to and how he works.
Instructor for the next lesson is someone who delivers the word much better than I. And he will come and testify to the word. We will look forward to seeing you again next time. Lastly, we will end by shouting we are one meaning that we are one in God and Jesus. We transcend races, nationalities, and religions and we are one in God. We are one.
