[Shincheonji Volunteer Dongjak Branch] Aiming to Reduce 50 Tons of Carbon Annually through ‘Net Zero’ Practices!
- Dongjak-gu Emerges as a Leading District in Climate Crisis Response -
As the climate crisis becomes an undeniable reality, the importance of addressing it cannot be overstated. Following the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, 195 countries pledged to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. However, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the temperature has already risen by 1.55°C, signaling an urgent need for more proactive carbon-neutral efforts from both nations and individuals.
Amid this global call to action, the efforts of the Shincheonji Volunteer Dongjak Branch are drawing attention. The Dongjak Branch is actively promoting practical carbon reduction efforts through a full-member participation campaign called ‘Net Zero’.
▎ Small Actions, Big Impact: Practicing ‘Net Zero’ in Daily Life
In March, over 100 members of the Dongjak Branch practiced the following carbon-reducing habits:
▪️ Using public transportation and bicycles
▪️ Taking the stairs instead of elevators
▪️ Using reusable items like tumblers
▪️ Reducing food waste
▪️ Growing plants
▪️ Conserving electricity
▪️ Adopting a plant-based diet
These practices go beyond a simple campaign—they represent a commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. The Dongjak Branch has set a goal of reducing 50 tons of carbon emissions annually through continued participation in these habits.
▎ Working with the Community for Carbon Neutrality
On March 19, the Dongjak Branch also conducted its regular street cleanup, known as the “Protect The Green Nature” initiative. They collected 650 liters of waste around Guro Digital Complex Station, contributing to carbon-neutral actions while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among members and local residents.
▎ Small Individual Efforts Can Create Big Global Changes
Globally, over 350 major companies including Google, Apple, and GM are participating in the RE100 campaign, pledging to source 100% of their electricity from renewable energy. Experts agree that combating the climate crisis requires not only national policies but also the active participation of individuals in their everyday lives.
In this light, the activities of the Dongjak Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer serve as a true model for building a sustainable future—transcending the bounds of a local campaign.
With continued efforts, Dongjak Branch is expected to play a key role in establishing Dongjak-gu as a leader in climate crisis response.

This is a beautiful post.
ReplyDelete100,000 members of Shincheonji took part in a blood drive in South Korea in 2022 to restore the domestic blood crisis that resulted from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. It's very encouraging that young people would sacrifice and serve in this way in today’s day and age♥ #ShincheonjiChurch
