What is the 'sacrifice to idols' you must not eat in Revelation 2?
"The idol in the prophets is a false shepherd
Sacrifice to idols is false doctrineㆍteaching"
[Shincheonji Church of Jesus, The Temple of the Tabernacle]
During our school life, everyone had an idol that they liked and looked up to, such as our parents, teachers, famous celebrities and sports stars. But there is something surprising. In Revelation 22:15, it says that those who worship idols cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. So, can we not go to heaven? In Revelation 2:14, Balaam taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit sexual immorality. What do idols mean in the Bible?
In the Ten Commandments God gave through Moses, God said 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image... you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.' (Exodus 20:4-5). The idol in this context refers to an actual idol made by humans, such as Aaron's golden calf. Solomon also worshiped these physical idols and the nation of Israel was cursed.
However, the idols of the prophets meant spiritual likened to these physical idols. In Isaiah 41, God said to these idols to state what will happen saying 'Present your case, Bring forth your strong reasons.". In this context, if the idols are a physical molded image, how can it sue or state? In the Bible, it says the molded images are wind and confusion (Isaiah 41:29). And the wind is likened to false prophets (Jeremiah 5:13) and the molded idol is likened to a false teacher (Hab 2:18). Therefore, we can realize that idols in the prophets refer to false shepherds who teach lies because they do not have the word of truth of God. This was under the guise of a physical idol made of gold, silver, wood, and stone, etc., which is lifeless and cannot speak, hear, or see. And, the sacrifices to idols that God's people should not eat are false doctrines and teachings that come out of the mouth of a false shepherd.
What is the reality of idols and sacrifices to idols at the First Coming when the prophecies of the Old Testament are fulfilled? The scribes and Pharisees, who were shepherds of the time, claimed that their father was God. But, Jesus said that the scribes and Pharisees are children of serpents and vipers. So, the idols at the First Coming are the false shepherds, scribes, and Pharisees. In Deuteronomy 32:33, it says their doctrine is the poison of serpents and the cruel venom of cobras. So, Worshiping them is to worship idols and eating their doctrine is accepting and eating things sacrificed to idols.
In the fulfillment of Revelation, what is the reality of idols and sacrifice to idols? In 2 Thessalonians 2, it says that the event of salvation at the Second Coming of Jesus will take place after the events of betrayal and destruction. In Revelation 1, seven stars of the church of seven golden candlesticks preparing the way of the Lord will appear. In chapter 2, after the appearance of tabernacles of these seven golden candlestick, the Nicolaitans entered. As the Nicolaitans fed the seven stars sacrificed to idols, the seven stars in Jesus' right hand committed fornication with the god of Satan. Because of this, Jesus appeared to John and told him to write a letter and John sent a letter to the seven stars who betrayed.
The book of Revelation was written under the guise of biblical names and places (Revelation 11:8). In the text of Revelation chapter2, looking at Jesus' letter to the church in Pergamos, there are those among them who kept the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. Balaam in the Old Testament was one of the few Gentile witches who believed in God. He was blinded by wealth, and taught Balak, the king of Moab, to lay a stumbling block which is idolatries before Israel. The Israelites fell for Balak's counsel and committed fornication with the Moabites, worshiping their gods and eating things sacrificed to their idols. The same thing happened spiritually at the fulfillment of Revelation. A false shepherd like Balaam became a spiritual idol and became one with a destroyer like Balak. At that time, the saints in the tabernacle of the seven golden candlesticks who were God's people did not even know that the doctrine of the destroyer was sacrificed to idols, but listened to its doctrine and followed him committing fornication with the spirit of Satan. A detailed explanation of this is the event in Revelation 13. The beast with seven heads and ten horns that came up from the sea invaded the tabernacle of the seven golden candlestick and fought against the saints of the tabernacle who betrayed and won, ending up with trampling them for 42 months.
"Things that we are obsessed such as 'performances and sports',
Eating sacrificial food after ancestral rites"
[Existing denomination Presbyterian Churches]
Presbyterian Pastor A
From Revelation 2:12, these are the words given to the church of Pergamum. Anything that we are crazy about and falling in is an idol. Whether it be any performance, for example, soccer, baseball or any game, or falling in love with anything other than Lord is idolatry.
Presbyterian Pastor B
There are people who bring food after ancestral rites. After holding shamanistic ritual, they bring a rice cake to eat. What do we do with it? Do we eat after praying? Or do we throw it in the garbage? Even though we know it was a sacrifice to idols, if you eat without any burden, what were you thinking?
Presbyterian church Pastor C
In the name of serving the dead ancestors, we prepare food, fruits, the pork head, and the pollack head. We bow down there and eat after bowing down. This is a sacrificial food. This food is the food of idols. So, eating food sacrificed to idols is a sin to have fellowship with demons.
These are truly the words of a wise person.
