[Shincheonji Church] Participates in Blood Donation to supply Blood Supply Difficulties
Shincheonji Church of Jesus, The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Chairman Man Hee Lee) is collecting blood for 6,000 people to help the absolute shortage of blood supply due to the prolonged Corona 19
According to the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, as of the 13th, the total blood holding amount was only 3.4 days, which is far less than the 5 days supply which is the Maginot Line for stable medical activities.
Since the outbreak of Corona 19, the amount of blood reserves has been continuously decreasing. In particular, as the number of unqualified people for blood donation has increased due to the recent Omicron pandemic, the blood supply has become an emergency. If blood cannot be supplied on its own internally, it must be imported from abroad, but the international community is currently promoting the principle of blood self-sufficiency, and domestic direct blood donation is the safest.
In response, Shincheonji Church of Jesus communicated with the Korean Red Cross to find a solution to the emergency in blood supply, and announced its intention to participate in blood donation with 74 churches of 12 tribes across the country.
Shincheonji Church of Jesus said that for two weeks from the 18th, they plan to select healthy blood donors among workers at the general headquarters, senior missionaries of 12 tribes and instructor and conduct group blood donation nationwide. The goal of blood donation is 6,000 people.
Meanwhile, at the time of the initial COVID-19, when there was no vaccine or treatment, a total of 6,000 people of Shincheonji Church of Jesus voluntarily participated in the plasma donation for the development of a treatment for COVID-19 from July to December 2020 at the request of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This plasma has been used for treatment development and virus research, and is currently used for the development and distribution of national standard materials for clinical trials of domestically developed vaccines for COVID-19.
This was an unprecedented example in the world in which all members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus volunteered to develop a plasma treatment, which was the only hope at the time, despite serious human rights damage such as personal information disclosure, forced resignation, bullying, and terrorism occurred due to the group infection of COVID-19.
The Shincheonji Church of Jesus said, “After hearing the unfortunate news that patients who have undergone surgery whose lives are at risk due to the reduced participation in blood donation due to COVID-19 are unable to receive a blood transfusion, we have decided to conduct a group blood donation to help overcome the crisis. Blood donation is the most valuable volunteer service to share lives, and it is something that everyone should do as religious people during difficult times.”
The Blood Management Headquarters said, “6,000 people is a significant amount when considering the 5,400 people who donate blood per day in Korea. It is expected to be of great help to overcome the current blood supply crisis. We are deeply grateful for the members to promote a nationwide blood donation campaign again after the saints participated in group plasma donation to develop COVID-19 treatments in 2020."
