The Figurative Song and Wedding Clothes

Those who are victorious over the beast and 

its image and over the number of its name:

stand beside the sea of glass and 

sing the song of Moses and of the Lamb

Q) What is the reality of figurative song? The gospel (the word)

[1] Figurative Song: the word (of prophecy), the Gospel

⏵ Physical feature: it is sung

① people lean the song by listening to it with their ears. Then they sing it with their mouths

② it has contents

③ it is sung and passed down by mouth

⏵ People learn a physical song by listening to it with their ears and singing it with their mouths. The song is passed down by mouth. Just like this, the song that believers should listen to, learn, sing and spread is the word of God.

1) Figurative song

Ps 119:54

the song: Lord’s decrees (word), gospel

Ps 119:172

the song: the word

among the words of history, teaching, prophecy, and fulfillment, which one is referred to as “the song”?

Dt 31:19-21

it is the song of prophecy that testifies that the Israelites would enter the land of Canaan, but that they would turn to other gods and break the covenant.

God: “teach this song and have them sing it” ⬇ Moses: taught this song (prophecy) ⬇ Israelites: learned and sang this song. This song became the evidence

the song: the word

⏵ the reason why God had them sing the song

God urged the Israelites to avoid plagues and hardships which were caused by breaking the covenant.

2) The song of Moses and of the Lamb

Rv 15:2-3

those who stand beside the sea of glass: sing the song of Moses and of the Lamb

⏵ the sea of glass: God’s throne, which is the kingdom of heaven

= the place where God’s throne comes down to and where those who overcome gather.

▮ The song of Moses: the word of prophecy in the Old Testament (that was promised through Moses) The song of the Lamb: the word of prophecy in the New Testament (that Jesus promised)

At the end of the age

① one should overcome the group of the devil

② those who are victorious stand beside the sea of glass

③ they learn, sing, and understand the word of prophecy promised in the Old Testament, and New Testament

④ those who keep this word become the children of the kingdom of heaven.

3) A New song: the gospel of physical fulfillment, which reveals that the prophecy is fulfilled

Rv 14:3

at Mt. Zion before God’s throne, the 144,000 learn and sing the New song

Is 42:9-10

a New song: testifying the new work which is the fulfillment of prophecy

◾ at Jesus’ first coming, the New song is the testimony of Jesus - the gospel of the fulfillment of the Old Testament ◾ at Jesus’ second coming, the New song is the testimony of the one who overcomes - the gospel of the fulfillment of the New Testament

⏵ At the First Coming, when the new word (New song) which was the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Old Testament was testified to the people, they had to listen to it and sing the song even through they had listened to the song of the law given by Moses.

⏵ Today, the New song that believers should learn and sing is the gospel of the fulfillment of the prophecy of the New Testament. This is the New song that we must learn and sing.

4) The song of Satan: false teachings

Is 25:5

the song of the ruthless

Babylon: the music of harpists, musicians, flute players, and trumpeters

◾ at Jesus’ first coming, the song of Satan: the lies of the teachers of the law and the Pharisees ◾ at Jesus’ second coming, the song of Satan: the lies of Babylon

⏵ Physical features (in books of history): one was required to wear a robe to come before God

1) In books of history: physical clothes

Ex 28:2-5

a priest wears sacred garments (clothes)

2) In books of prophecy: spiritual clothes

Mt 22:11-14

the kingdom of heaven: a wedding banquet

those who are invited

- those who are wearing wedding clothes will be chosen and can participate in the wedding banquet

- those who are not wearing wedding clothes will be thrown outside of the wedding banquet

Rv 19:11-13

the rider on a white horse is dressed in a robe dipped in blood. His name is the word of God

Rv 19:8

fine linen: righteous deeds of the saints

∴ Clothes = ① the word of God ② righteous deeds

▮ What kind of person should believers become to have the word of God and righteous deeds? ◾ Rv 3:4-5 the one who overcomes wears white clothes ◾ Rv 22:14 those who wash their robes with the water of life as clear as crystal ⟶ Blessing: entering the Holy City (the kingdom of heaven)

3) Clothes of Satan: the teaching and deeds of false pastors

Rv 17:4

the woman (prostitute) is dressed in purple and scarlet: she is a false pastor who associated with the spirits of Satan

⏵ Today, it is important for you to do righteous deeds according to the word of Jesus - do not worship the beast and its image - do not receive the mark - God tells us to become those who are sealed those who understand this meaning and keep the word will become those who wear the clothes of righteous deeds Just being good and kind in the eye of man, without understanding the true meaning of God’s word, is not the righteous deed that God acknowledges
